Never before since the invention of the starting gate in the early 1920's has any single manufacture had the ability to offer two completely different operating systems. Such is the design excellence of Simtrack, that it not only gives its customers the choice, but can further boast the most advanced and modern designs that exist anywhere in the world today..!
Two systems, one the more traditional mechanical, the other the most revolutionary and exclusive hydraulic, have resulted in Simtrack becoming the number one producer of starting barriers:
Hydraulic Systems

Never before has such an advanced system been designed with so many improvements over all other Starting Stalls. Tony Sims, who has been designing and manufacturing Starting Gates for over 45 years to more than 60 countries world wide, has reinvented the operating principals of Gates as we know it!
Today, all gates open by various mechanical systems consisting of coil springs which force the gate open into a retaining plate with a suction cup holding it open. While this is a reliable system, it does create a lot of noise causing the horse trauma and ultimately making it hesitant to enter stalls. It also damages components like the rubber stoppers which can require regular replacing.
Now with the new SIMTRACK design, the starting gate can open using hydraulic actuators ), which slow the gates down just before they reached their fully opened position. The operation is whisper quiet and causes no damage to any components.
Obviously the stress on the animal is consequently reduced significantly. Horses which start through SIMTRACK starting barriers are much less agitated, and easer to handle as they learn to not fear the clatter and noise associated with other gates. This ultimately means less risk of damage to the horse, jockey and handlers who load them into the stalls.
With rear gates, where a horse in the past could be almost completely in, but then able to back out again at the last minute, the hydraulic actuator has ended the days of this frustrating situation.
Where normal rear gates need to be completely closed before they are able to lock themselves into position, the SIMTRACK starting gates can close progressively behind the horse, making it impossible for the animal to back out at any stage, and in an emergency can be released just as easily.

Mechanical Systems

The Mechanical starting gate system is the equivalent to how all other starting barriers around the world currently operate. This includes front suction cups and springs, with an overhead operating shaft that rotates to open. Rear gates have manual pull levers that snap lock into position as used on other gates….all very similar, except for a few key differences!
Both front and rear mechanical parts have been re designed to improve operation, reduce maintenance but most importantly decrease noise and rattles when in use.
Front catch springs and operating rods are all made from 304 Stainless Steel. Rear gates slide and lock into position along a stainless steel guide, while the handle is neatly positioned underneath for safety.
These features alone separate Simtrack from its competitors, but the improvements don’t stop there with its use of nylon bush’s and rubber in both the front and rear mechanisms to keep rattles and other operating sounds to an absolute minimum!
This critically keeps the horse as calm as possible at all times when in the barrier, further reducing the risk of injury in a Simtrack starting gate.
The mechanical gate also boasts the other standard Simtrack design features such as all weather padded stalls, 304 stainless steel gates and platforms, and rear gate open retainers, making it far exceed all other designs in production, while remaining incredible value for money!
